Avocado festival
From Wednesday 8 to Sunday 12 May.
The Avocado Festival is a popular event on the island of Maré. It's an opportunity for its growers to share their passion for this delicious fruit and the agriculture of which they are proud.
Every year, it attracts numerous visitors from all over New Caledonia and beyond. It's an opportunity for the island's inhabitants to share and show their pride in the many assets that the island of Nengone has to offer. An invitation to authentic tourism and a tribal experience to be enjoyed over 5 days of festivities. It's an adventure that began in the 90s, when a few farmers decided to organize a small, simple festival. Later, with the support of the great chief of Guahma, Mr. Nidoish NAISSELINE, it became a resounding success. And so the Avocado Festival was born. Today, it's an essential part of New Caledonia's festive calendar. The organizing committee's aim is to promote authenticity and show guests how people live in the tribe. A meeting between locals and visitors received as friends. Many families from the Nece, Mebuet, Tuo and Padawa tribes open their homes to welcome guests. In addition to the avocado, the stalls of the farmers' market feature a wide range of organic-guaranteed fruit and vegetables, handicrafts, a fishmonger's for seafood products, and food stalls where you can savour Maré avocado in a variety of recipes. In addition to cultural, musical and sporting events, there will also be on-site activities such as weaving lessons for mothers and workshops f...or children. An atmosphere "à la mode de chez nous". The Avocado Festival also means discovering Maré, with a host of discovery activities: boat trips, island tours, hikes, initiation to tribal activities (coconut crab hunting), beekeeping tours and the avocado orchard. A great opportunity to get to know the island that speaks to your heart, in all its facets. Between encounters, links with nature's bounty, beaches, forests and sunsets, there's plenty to keep your curiosity alive and your mind off things for a weekend! Lire la suite
