Peng Beach

Located about twenty minutes from Wé the island’s capital, the pretty beach of Peng is particularly appreciated for its calm and clear waters.

To access it from the Hapetra tribal village, take a dirt road that is on your right just after the bend. The journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes by car. This road will lead to a beautiful white sand beach with turquoise blue water surrounded by coral rocks. Far from any habitation, you can enjoy the area in peace, but be aware that it is also a place of leisure for the inhabitants. You may also meet a resident there: Guy, a sculptor of mother-of-pearl and sandalwood who will love to show you some of his latest creations. It is also the perfect place to admire beautiful sunsets. In Peng, in 1935, an epidemic of leprosy forced the local population into a mass exodus. The remains of the site of the original tribal village and its cemetery are still visible. Nearby, a sacred cave is hidden away, it is supposed to guard the water that gives life to the three great chiefdoms of Lifou.
