Visit to a vanilla plantation, sale of vanilla beans and handicrafts.
The cultivation of vanilla was introduced to Lifou in 1860 by the English reverend Samuel McFarlane, who brought some plants from Madagascar on his ship. Nowadays, more than 120 producers and a large number of planters supply a 100 % natural vanilla: Lifou's "brown gold". The Mu tribe, in the south of the island, received the first vanilla plants, and, at the same time, the first missionaries. With great enthusiasm, Lues will tell you all about the history of Lifou's vanilla and reveal the secrets of its cultivation.
