Southern Pleiades
The Atoll of Ouvéa is closed to the west by a string of uninhabited islets and sandbanks that stretch like comet tails clinging to the ends of the main island, the Northern and Southern Pleiades, separated by the Anemata Pass.
The southern Pleiades are full of exceptional scuba diving sites. Several boat trips are offered to discover the Gee and Gece Motus, which are the closest to the main island. Snorkel freely and observe the underwater fauna and flora. The diver is spoilt for choice between the turtles, manta rays, sharks and reef fish in this colourful and preserved water garden! A very large population of gorgonians (Astroboa nuda) has taken up residence in the southern Pleiades which, along with those in the north, are nesting sites for green sea turtles.
