Ahmelewedr Bay
Located in the southern part of the island in the Mou tribal area, Ahmelewedr Bay, the twin of Wadra Bay is a place of great charm, and one steeped in history.
Just like Wadra Bay, from which it is separated only by a coral isthmus, Ahmelewedr Bay is ideal for a small picnic by the beach surrounded by coconut trees and the endemic Cook’s pines that soar into the sky. The water is calm and large coral heads make it an excellent spot for snorkelling. It is also one of the favourite bathing places for the inhabitants of the tribe, and equally for the turtles who come to take refuge in its calm waters. This place was the point of arrival in Lifou of the first Christian evangelists and was also the scene of a deadly tsunami in 1875
