Church of Saint-Michel

The Catholic church of Saint-Michel is located in the centre of Fayaoué island and the capital of the island.

The church, which dates from 1903, is built at the side of the main road at the far end of a large space lined with Caledonian columnar pines. It is decorated with two bell towers with bright red roofs. The columned porch is topped with stained glass lancets. The forecourt is often used as a football field by the children of the school just behind it. The main Sunday Mass at 10 am provides a magnificent spectacle, with hymns and chants uplifted by the fervour of the faithful in their traditional costumes.
