Church of the Sacred Heart of Wé
Built by the missionaries of the Sacred Heart Xavier Montrouzier and François Palazy, this small church located by the sea does not lack style.
With its essentially Spanish style and its two crenellated towers worthy of a Disney castle, the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Qanono (pronounced "rouanono") cannot go unnoticed. Built of hand-worked stones (known as ashlar), it was built between 1896 and 1899 by Wenatr Wenemechingo, known as "Brother Caesar", it is on the border of the three districts of the island, along the main road connecting the tribes of the North to those of the South. The Catholic community of Lifou have made it the centre for their annual pilgrimage in June during the Feast of the Sacred Heart.
