CULTURAL HERITAGE
Monument dedicated to the arrival of the Gospel
Located in the Roh tribal village some 200 m after the church, this monument commemorates the arrival in 1841 of the first Polynesian Protestant catechists who came to evangelize the island.
Tataio and Taniela were the first Polynesian Protestant catechists of the London Missionary Society, who came to evangelize the island. Following the Kanak custom, the bones of the two missionaries were placed in their canoe and placed on the side of the cliff, 2 metres above the monument.
